EDM... Products and Services

EDM Specialties operations focus on two elements within the calibration standards world; Service and Product Sales.

Specialized Services:

Our experienced and knowledgeable EDM technicians produce custom flaws in a variety of materials and applications on a daily basis. Typically, we provide these services in state-of-the-art service lab located in Houston, Texas. However, since one of the most important features of our patented equipment is its mobility, we can also provide most of our specialized services at your location if necessary.

Specialized Products:

In 1985, when we conceived, developed, and patented the very first portable EDM unit capable of producing precision calibration flaws in pipe and metal materials, our equipment was immediately recognized as "THE STANDARD" against which all other products in this arena would be measured... and it continues to be so today.

Within the industry (QA calibration standards), we are the largest manufacturer of portable EDM equipment in the world. Our equipment and methods are continually cited by major oil companies and QA engineering groups as the very best product available for achieving precise calibration flaws within difficult applications.

Over the years, our engineers and technicians have developed several generations of the original product. Today, we offer three individual units to "end users" throughout the world, such as steel mills, processors, NDE laboratories, and various metal manufacturing QA departments.

NotchMaster 201M
Our 201M unit is perfect for most applications. This equipment can easily create calibration notches up to 2.00" in length with a full 360 degrees in orientation. Notches and flaws can be place on flat or curved surfaces, including O.D. or I.D. surface of pipes and tubes.
With a lighter power supply, this unit is perfect for calibration notches, small flat bottom holes (up to 1/2" diameter), light corrosion pitting, and simulated wall reductions up to 1 square inch.
NotchMaster 301MR
Our 301MR unit is the one to choose if you requirements are more demanding such as thicker metal cross sections or greater metal removal. It provides all the standard features of our 201M unit and more. The equipment can easily create calibration notches from 1/16" long up to 2.00" in length with a full 360 degrees in orientation. Notches and flaws can be placed on flat or curved surfaces, including O.D. or I.D. surface of pipes and tubes.
This unit is excellent for manufacturing calibration notches, large flat bottom holes (up to 1.0" in diameter), heavy corrosion pitting, 60 degree "V's", and simulated wall reductions up to 4 square inches.
TapMaster
This unit was specifically developed for manufacturing facilities to extract broken drill bits and taps in order to "save" the work piece. Many times the parts are so large and so complex that a simple broken bit can ruin a part you have thousands of dollars invested in. That is where our TapMaster unit shows off.
The smallest, lightest and most portable Electric Discharge Machine designed by Scan Systems Corporation. The versatile EDM TapMaster I is designed to be taken to the place where the work needs to be done: the mill, lab, yard, warehouse, anywhere you can provide a supply of electricity.
Based on our Notch Master patents, the EDM TapMaster I includes the TapMaster Power Supply, pre-packaged selection of cutting heads, slave cylinder, mounting system with magnetic base, master cylinder, manual hand pump and oil reservoir, and selection of cutting electrodes for each cutting head.
