Scan Systems Corporation has provided products and services that have proven to become industry standards in the OCTG tubing and casing world. And yet, the staff at Scan Systems has not sat on the side lines, letting technology pass us by enjoying the fruits of investments past. In fact, the opposite is true. Over the past ten years Scan Systems has invested heavily in product advancements and product improvements that continue to usher our four divisions into leading edge technologies, while offering the highest level of service possible.
We offer solutions and enhancements to fall into these common OCTG applications:
- MFL Inspection Equipment
- Calibration Standards
- Pipe Notches
- Automated Pipe Tallies
- Pipe Inventory Management
MFL Inspection Equipment
PITCO™ manufactures and markets 4 independent pipe inspection systems (longitudinal, transverse, wall measuring, and grade comparison), each in a stand-alone modular design for steel mills and third party pipe inspection companies. Customers enjoy the flexibility to mix and match the specific systems for their individual application. Once our customers have determined the types of inspections their application will require, we combine the various inspection systems into a single integrated unit to achieve economies of scale, while passing the savings along, producing extremely high value products for our clients. Our 4-function inspection systems have the capability to perform the following inspection:
• Longitudinal Inspection System
• Magnetic Wall Monitoring Inspection System
• Transverse Inspection System
• Grade Difference Comparison
Scan Systems™ Corporation’s engineers, experienced in the non-destructive testing field, recognized the need for a better way to introduce artificial flaws into standards for calibrating ultrasonic inspection equipment that would improve quality assurance response.
Scan Systems designed and manufactured the world’s first portable EDM unit (electric discharge machine) specifically designed to introduce artificial flaws in metal products. Since 1985, EDM Specialties™ has been offering our NDE inspection clients the finest quality calibration standards available. With in-house machines and custom facilities, we offer many different services have become a one-stop shop for our clients.
While pipe and tubing is our roots, we have a long list of satisfied clients in aircraft manufacturing, the aerospace industry, the nuclear industry, various military contracts, the defense department, and scores of other industries where quality standards are necessary in order to critically inspect metal products.
Our patented EDM Notch Master® is successful because the process is precisely controlled by a micrometer, rather than relying on guesswork or trial and error. This flexibility allows the size and shape of the flaw to be controlled without limitation. The EDM Notch Master® has the ability to machine ID or OD notches parallel to the axis of the pipe, transverse to the axis of the pipe, or at any angle relative to the axis of the pipe. The notches maintain uniform depth for the entire length of the cut, regardless of the angle.
Designed with simplicity in mind the EDM Notch Master® is portable, quiet, and easy to set up. The Notch Master® can be operated with available electric supply or generator. It can be used as a stationary piece of lab equipment or transported around a plant or pipe yard to be used on location. Whether in the field or inside the plant, the Notch Master® will go where you need it most. Due to its accuracy, precision, dependability, and convenience, the EDM Notch Master® is accepted worldwide as an important tool for quality assurance in the metals industry. Steel mills in the United States, Europe, Central America, South America, and the Far East have committed to the EDM Notch Master®.
Your company’s reputation and performance standards are being put to the test. Successful nondestructive testing ensures the most reliable reading that exceeds your customers’ strict tolerance and the industry requirements. Your customer’s quality assurance requires you to deliver only flawless products. It is imperative that you use the best method available to assist you in the indication of flaws during the final inspection of your product runs.
Automated Pipe Tallies
Conventional pipe tallies require at least 3 direct laborers, a collection of office personnel recruited for the addition of the paperwork, and a group of onlookers that usually assemble. When the process is finally complete, the final document – the pipe tally – is delivered to your customer and is usually the only thing he gets to physically see of your operation. Just think of the impression when they receive your tally sheet… wrinkled, dirty, smudged, and perhaps incorrectly totaled! When Tally-Rite® was conceived, our goal has been to provide our customers with the fastest and easiest way possible to create accurate tallies while eliminating as much of the associated direct labor as possible. At the same time, we wanted to eliminate the majority of human errors while increasing production and profits.
Pipe Inventory Management
TDS® (Tubular Data Systems) is a specialty inventory control and “business process software” for the storage, handling, inspection, and reporting of OCTG (oil country tubular goods) materials, designed specifically for the oil and gas industry.
Our OCTG inventory control software is laced with well over 130 reports. Without a properly designed user interface, this level of reporting could prove daunting, and it has been for our developers….but not for our users. The simple and intuitive filtering capabilities offered in each module allows our users quickly satisfy their customer’s needs, providing them with on the spot answers and reports to back that up. Each report links to other relevant reports to further speed the process along.
Described by clients and evaluators as “the most feature-laden product they have ever seen,” TDS® is different than other software products because it was the first of its kind and was developed by pipe experts and not by administrative personnel. Our Scan Systems innovators have actually been responsible for the day-to-day operations of pipe yards and service companies and know the pipe business. TDS® products are built “FOR pipe people, BY pipe people.”
